HESPA 2015 Annual Conference

Maintaining strategic direction amid policy turbulence and global competition

Took place on 5-6 February, 2015 at Loughborough University

The HESPA 2015 Annual Conference provided an excellent opportunity for planners at any stage in their career to analyse and explore the changing HE landscape, address some of the challenges around new HE policy and look at ways to deal with increased global competition.  At HESPA 14 you said you wanted more places – so doubled capacity to around 170 delegates.  In addition we had a number of key colleagues from HESA, funding councils and other agencies attending to allow for plenty of opportunity to get your views across about policy, funding, regulation, metrics and more.

The conference included plenary and panel sessions from prominent speakers, including Sir Ian Diamond, Nick Hillman from HEPI, Mark Leach from WonkHE, Theresa Bauer (HE Minister from Germany),  Gordon MacKenzie from BIS, Huw Morris from Welsh Government …  and there was a choice of six workshops taking place on each day offering seminars on current topics such as Making HE Policy, Open Data, Risk Management, SLC data accessibility and DevoMax. Dinner and drinks took place on Thursday evening, with ample opportunity to network throughout the conference.  Delegates also had time to talk to suppliers of BI/planning systems in our exhibitors’ area.
