Learning Analytics – the role of the Planner
Date: Thursday 22 September, 15:00 - 16:00
Presenters: Dr Christine Couper, CouperJones Higher Education Consultants
Description:
Learning Analytics (LA) has been an area of active development in HE for at least a decade, yet many still consider LA to be a change programme that is still in its infancy. LA offers unrealised potential to generate significant insight into the fundamentals of teaching and learning. It is all about data – which most planners are fascinated by. It links to activities that planners identify as core, from providing evidence of improvements in key performance indicators, preparing statutory submissions, to data quality enhancement activities. Yet, the Planning Community has remained very much on the periphery of LA development and implementation.
This session will provide a brief introduction to Learning Analytics, review the work that has been done so far, describe the experiences of different institutions at varying stages of implementation and reflect on the role for the Planner both now and in the future.
