Item 2: Regulatory Compliance SIG: assurance as a risk management tool/developing assurance statements (Elle Bateman - University of Cambridge)
Elle will present on assurance as a risk management tool, with a focus on the development and rollout of an annual assurance statements exercise at Cambridge and the impact this is starting to have on identifying and mitigating risks in a devolved operating environment.
Speakers
Elle Bateman is the Head of Assurance at the University of Cambridge. Elle leads the University’s risk and assurance functions, including managing the outsourced internal audit function and supporting the Audit Committee.
Chris Griffin is Head of Risk & Resilience at the University of Warwick. Chris leads on the university’s risk, planning and incident management functions. Namely, the oversight of a risk management framework that enables risks to be identified and escalated across all professional, commercial, and academic departments.
Catherine McStay is Head of Compliance & Assurance at the University of Warwick and works in a job share with Kirsty Jenkins. Catherine and Kirsty lead a central compliance oversight function. The team have developed a Compliance & Assurance Framework, approved by the University’s Executive Board and Audit & Risk Committee and designed to improve consistency in approach to compliance management and reduce the risk of non-compliance.
