It’s January and lots of us are thinking about what can inspire and challenge us in the year ahead. I can’t help you with any fitness goals I’m afraid (though suggestions are very welcome this way!) but I can suggest a secondment.
Secondments are a great way to refresh your skill set and fill any gaps you might have in your CV.
I work at the Institute of Cancer Research and our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We are a research-intensive institution and a post-graduate college of the University of London. With new leadership in place, we are mobilising for a new strategic period.

Our new CEO Professor Kristian Helin, who joined us in September 2021, is working with our senior researchers to develop the ICR’s research strategy. In parallel we are working with academic staff and students to refresh our teaching and learning strategy. The third strand of our institutional strategy is how the ICR’s professional services teams can optimally support these two strategic areas.
We are looking for a Strategy and Planning Manager for the next 12 months, who can bring their skills and insights to help us shape the future direction of the ICR. We are BIG in our vision but small enough for the post-holder to have real impact, and to get to know the senior leaders and wider team involved. They need to be comfortable working on the mechanics of pulling a strategy together (such as organising meetings and slide decks) and will play a key role in building:
